Just sitting in the very engaging "Creating Passionate Users" session by Kathy Sierra. Frankly, I was too engaged to blog during the session - in general, Kathy's points were roughly (from my point of view):

  • Create an experience that engages the user emotionally - this makes the experience memorable (literally - chemical processes in the brain are modified by emotion)
  • Create an experience that puts the user at the forefront of the experience (Kathy says that the user should have an experience that makes them feel "I rule!!!")

One of my thoughts related to the talk are that free software/open source depends on the passionate developers who solve problems - who are emotionally engaged in a problem.
